Feltonfleet Marks World Book Day with a Week of Literary Celebration | News

Feltonfleet School embraced World Book Day with a week-long celebration of storytelling, imagination and the joy of reading – a core part of the school’s ethos that recognises books as powerful tools for learning, creativity and connection.

Throughout the week, pupils across all year groups took part in a wide range of activities designed to bring books to life and celebrate a shared love of literature. A special whole-school Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R.) moment saw staff and pupils pause together for 25 minutes of peaceful reading – a calm and uplifting start to the festivities.

The school was also delighted to welcome two acclaimed children’s authors. Jennifer Killick, author of the bestselling Crater Lake and Dread Wood series, inspired pupils in Years 4–8 with her engaging workshops and insights into the writing process. Meanwhile, younger pupils in Nursery to Year 3 were captivated by Pip Jones, best known for her Squishy McFluff stories, who brought characters to life with humour and warmth.

A lively House Book Quiz sparked enthusiasm and friendly competition, while the whole school community got into character for World Book Day dress-up, with both pupils and staff showcasing impressive creativity. One highlight was a group of teachers transforming into a walking version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, complete with fruit, snacks and cake.

To top off the celebrations, Feltonfleet’s talented catering team served a themed lunch inspired by Disney’s Ratatouille, adding a playful, culinary twist to the week’s events.

Librarian, Francesca Kingsnorth, commented:

“Books have the power to unlock imagination, build empathy, and bring people together. Our World Book Day celebrations are always a highlight of the year – they remind us why reading matters, and why stories are at the heart of what we do.”

Feltonfleet’s World Book Day week was not only a celebration of literature but also a vibrant expression of community, creativity and curiosity – values that lie at the heart of the school’s approach to learning.
