Our Four Core Values | Pastoral Care | Feltonfleet School

At Feltonfleet, our core values of honesty, responsibility, respect and kindness are the foundation of everything we do.

These principles aren’t just words on paper; they are the beliefs that help us to make decisions about how to behave. We believe that by living these values, our pupils develop into thoughtful, well-rounded individuals who contribute positively to the world around them.

Our school places a strong emphasis on recognising and rewarding positive behaviour, as we believe this fosters an ethos of kindness and cooperation - key ingredients for a thriving community. Rather than focusing solely on deterring anti-social behaviour, our approach to discipline is deeply rooted in Values education, the process by which people give moral values to each other. We actively promote and celebrate good behaviour as a way of nurturing a supportive, caring environment where every pupil feels valued and respected.

Here's how our core values come to life at Feltonfleet:

Honesty
  • Pupils are encouraged to be truthful in their words and actions, fostering a culture of trust and integrity.

  • Pupils learn to be honest with themselves, recognising their strengths and areas for growth.

  • Honesty is also emphasised in their approach to learning—being honest about their efforts and progress.

Responsibility
  • Pupils are taught to take responsibility for their actions, recognising how their choices affect those around them.

  • We foster a strong sense of responsibility for learning, encouraging pupils to be accountable for their effort, progress, and behaviour in the classroom.

  • Responsibility also extends to the everyday - looking after personal belongings, respecting shared spaces, and caring for the property of others.

Respect
  • Respect starts with self-respect, which we encourage in every pupil.

  • We teach them to respect each other’s ideas, beliefs, and differences, fostering a community that values diversity and inclusivity.

  • Respect for the learning environment is also key, ensuring that everyone can thrive in a space that is supportive and conducive to growth.

Kindness
  • Pupils are taught to be kind to themselves, practising mindfulness and self-care.

  • Kindness towards others is a daily expectation, from simple gestures to more significant acts of compassion.

  • We encourage random acts of kindness, reminding pupils that even small, unprompted actions can have a big impact on someone’s day.
