Form time is a crucial part of the Middle School experience and our Pastoral Care Framework, where pupils reconnect each day with the group that knows them best. This time ensures that each child feels grounded and supported, with Form Tutors there to help navigate any challenges that arise and to celebrate successes.
Fostering self-discipline, self-confidence, and self-awareness is a top priority in Middle School. We encourage pupils to fully engage in their school experiences, empowering them to make thoughtful choices that will shape their journey to senior school and beyond.

In Year 5, pupils are also entrusted with their personal iPads, which they use for the remainder of their time at Feltonfleet. Our Pupil iPad Programme is built around the values of Responsibility and Respect, key elements of digital citizenship. The programme enhances personalised learning, boosts organisation, encourages creative productivity, and opens up new avenues for collaboration and communication. Pupils learn to effectively use digital tools to express their knowledge, while also tailoring their learning journey to their individual needs.
Through residentials and boarding opportunities, Middle School pupils further develop their independence, resilience, teamwork, initiative, and leadership. As they grow older, these experiences become more exciting and immersive, encouraging pupils to step outside their comfort zones and tackle new situations with confidence. Longer and more adventurous residential trips take them to diverse environments, where they must apply problem-solving skills, collaborate with peers, and adapt to unfamiliar surroundings. Boarding life continues to enhance their sense of responsibility and self-reliance, as they learn to balance academic commitments with social interactions and personal routines. These experiences not only prepare them for the demands of senior school but also help them to develop the confidence, adaptability, and leadership qualities that will serve them well in all areas of life.
Middle School also marks a time of important academic milestones, including preparation for the external assessments through which pupils secure their senior school places. Our balanced approach ensures that pupils are well-prepared for these challenges without losing sight of the enriching and broad curriculum we value. As part of this preparation, the ‘Discover You’ programme plays a vital role in developing self-confidence and self-awareness through engaging activities focused on personal growth and self-discovery. During this time we also work in close partnership with parents and destination schools, to secure school places for each child which will enable them to continue successfully on their educational journey beyond Feltonfleet.
By the end of Year 6, pupils are not only academically ready for the next stage but also prepared to embrace the leadership responsibilities and challenges that await them in Upper School, with confidence and a sense of purpose.
