Year 8 Visit the Houses of Parliament | News

Our Year 8 pupils embarked on a memorable and enriching trip to the Houses of Parliament recently, to deepen their understanding of the UK’s political system and the workings of His Majesty’s Government.

Excitement was high as the group arrived just across from Parliament Square. The short walk to Westminster offered a real sense of London’s vibrant atmosphere, with several peaceful demonstrations taking place nearby. From calls for peace in Gaza to discussions around current parliamentary policies and bills, the pupils witnessed first-hand how active citizenship and democracy play out in real life.

Once inside the historic building, pupils explored the magnificent interior, including a visit to the House of Lords. The grandeur and history of the building made a lasting impression. The visit continued with a hands-on educational workshop, during which pupils worked in groups to create and propose their own bills. They then debated their ideas and tried to win the support of their peers - bringing the legislative process to life in a dynamic and engaging way.

The highlight of the day for many was the opportunity to sit in the public viewing gallery of the House of Commons. With a full chamber and a live debate in progress, pupils were able to see Parliament in action and witness the democratic process unfold right before their eyes.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable trip, and pupils returned full of enthusiasm and interest from the day’s experience.
