Form Tutors play a central role in monitoring and nurturing their pupils' pastoral welfare, forming strong, trusting relationships with each child. They are supported by Heads and Deputy Heads of School, who oversee the pastoral care of pupils within their respective sections of the school - Pre-Prep, Lower, Middle, or Upper School - and by our Deputy Head (Pastoral), who brings particular expertise in child development and pastoral care.

Feltonfleet fosters an environment that promotes mindfulness and positive mental health. Wellbeing lessons are woven into the curriculum, providing pupils with dedicated time to relax, reflect, and build resilience. During Form Time, pupils have the opportunity to discuss their emotions and experiences with the support of their Form Tutors, reinforcing a school-wide ethos that encourages emotional expression and wellbeing.

For those who need additional support, our dedicated School Counsellor is available for drop-in sessions or scheduled appointments, offering pupils a safe space to work through challenges or boost their self-esteem. Pupils can self-refer or seek appointments through staff or parents, ensuring easy access to help when it's needed. Our on-site School Nurses are also on hand to provide first aid and reassurance, further enhancing the supportive environment.

Good Schools Guide 2024

To maintain a high standard of care, all staff undergo regular training in pastoral issues, ensuring they are well-equipped to address the needs of every pupil. We also offer information sessions for parents and pupils, covering key aspects of pastoral care and pupil welfare, reinforcing the strong partnership between school and home.

In the Prep School, pupils are encouraged to actively engage in discussions about pastoral issues, understanding their role in contributing to the wellbeing of the school community. Weekly PSHE Education lessons and participation in Pupil Voice Committees provide structured opportunities for reflection and dialogue, fostering a sense of responsibility and empathy among students.

Our culture of openness and approachability extends to parents, who are encouraged to reach out with any concerns, no matter how big or small. We believe in a close partnership between teachers and parents, working together to ensure the welfare and happiness of every pupil. All staff are easily contactable by email, reflecting our commitment to maintaining strong, transparent communication between home and school.

I love that it feels like you can talk to anyone in the school... it feels like all the years from younger to older have a strong connection… it feels like the younger years know that they can talk to and ask the older years for advice.
