Feltonfleet Bursts Into Colour As House Competitions Begin | News

The first event in this year’s House Competitions set Feltonfleet buzzing with creativity, teamwork, and a dazzling display of colour.

To celebrate the development and school ownership of Byfleet Road, pupils from across the school came together for a large-scale collaborative art project — transforming the road itself into a vibrant outdoor gallery.

Armed with chalks and plenty of imagination, every pupil from Reception to Year 8 played a part in producing four enormous abstract artworks. Each House Captain had the opportunity to step into their first leadership role of the year: guiding their House through the planning, design, and execution of their pieces. They carefully selected their abstract artist inspirations and colour schemes, weaving in their House colours and ensuring that their teammates not only had fun but also created something truly memorable and impactful.

  • Tigers drew inspiration from Van Gogh’s The Sower at Sunset, capturing the fiery drama of the evening sky.
  • Badgers recreated the swirling, dreamlike energy of Van Gogh’s Starry Night.
  • Otters took inspiration from the circular forms of Delaunay, using bright colours and bold contrasts.
  • Foxes were inspired by the linear and geometric shapes of Mondrian, creating squares and rectangles to structure their design.

House Captains coordinated their peers brilliantly, making sure every pupil could contribute. It was particularly heartening to see the Calvi Prefect Team supporting the younger children so warmly, building strong bonds across the year groups and encouraging every artist to take pride in their contribution.

As the day unfolded, the chalk masterpieces grew into stunning murals, showcasing not only artistic skill but also the spirit of teamwork and leadership that sits at the heart of Feltonfleet life. In true Feltonfleet spirit, even when the rain arrived at the end of the day, spirits were not dampened. The showers washed away the artworks — but not before we were able to capture some stunning aerial shots of the finished pieces, a lasting record of the pupils’ creativity and teamwork.
