Last weekend the IstXV ventured west for the annual fixture with our sister school Perrott Hill. The excitement in the minibus was tangible, further increased by a rapid raid on an “On the Run” Esso petrol station. With a stash of goodies we continued our journey. On arrival the boys were paired up with buddies with whom they were being billeted for the night . The match day arrived. The boys were really up for it. The last time the IstXV had lost was this fixture two years ago. We wanted revenge. From the start we dominated the game and within five minutes we were 7 – 0 up after a cleverly placed kick from Piers Breakwell was chased up by Adam Causer who tackled the full back stripped him off the ball and ran in under the posts. Five minutes later some great phase play resulted in the ball moving down the line for Shane Barry from full-back to crash over in the corner. Adam causer then slotted over the conversion. 14- 0 nil at half time. Halftime saw a raft of changes as the subs took their places. Within five minutes Tom Brasher and Toby Howarth turned over the ball at the breakdown and we got the ball to Jamie Shaw who with his first touch of the ball made a mazy 40m run, cutting through the Perrott Hill defence and scoring between the posts. Conversion 3 went over 21-0. A couple of injures to Ed Cooper and Nick Phizackerley saw us having to make some positional changes. Through the forwards marshalled by Felix Griffin we continued to dominate with only stout resistance and brave tackling keeping us at bay. Eventually the pressure told and from a scrum close to their line, a beautifully executed switch between Piers and Adam resulted in Adam scoring a second try which he duly converted. Final score 28-0. An excellent all-round performance by the 19 boys who played. Well done,
