May 2010 Charity Day
Calvi
Calvi House had a fabulous charity day on Friday the 30th of April where we raised money for ‘The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association’. Our guest speaker, Jack Holland, visited our school and brought his puppy, Jenny, with him. She was a 6 month old Golden Retriever and absolutely adored all the children. They learnt all about how he trains the guide dogs and the process they go through before they are matched with a suitable owner. We presented a cheque for £205 to Jack which he was delighted with. A huge thank you to everyone for their generous support and for those who participated in our competition that was held! A fabulous effort, well done!

Year 3
Inspired by the recent London Marathon, our Year Three animal loving pupils took to the running track with a challenging 26.2 laps target in mind, fuelled by their desire to help local animal charity, Springflower Animal Sanctuary.
With a sticker to record and inspire their completion of each and every five laps completed, coupled with the rousing support from many parents, Year Three took ‘Charity Day’ fully in their stride, raising a truly impressive total (so far) of £851.59 (with some sponsorship monies still to be collected) to support Springflower’s current fundraising project for a new stable.

Year 4
Year 4 had a ‘Wheely Good Day’. They had the opportunity to bring in any toy that had wheels and paid a pound for every wheel. They raised £134 for the Animal Rescue Centre.
Vicky Clark Head of Year 4
Year 5
Year 5 decided to support ‘Oasis’ charity this year. It is a local charity with a simple aim, to help disadvantaged children in the Cobham area. We chose this charity at the request of Ellie Shaw, a past pupil at Feltonfleet, and the sister of Chris in Year 5. She trained for and took part in an epic canoe race down the Thames to raise money for this worthwhile cause. All of the children in the year group took part in a sponsored rallying competition on the tennis courts against Mr Boxer. Each child had 3 attempts and the winner was Hector Berry who managed to have a rally with Mr Boxer of an impressive 27 strokes. The children raised approximately £121 on the day for their chosen charity. In addition, Abigail Wheelan, Rosie Westmore-Burns and Anais Ridgeway raised 25.01 for Oasis during the same afternoon doing 26 laps jogging in their garden and asked neighbours to sponsor them for a very good cause.

Year 6
Y6 raised over £86.89 for Epsom Riding for the Disabled Association. They gave money to attend a talk about the charity’s activities given kindly by Mrs Louise Ross, who explained how the charity helps people. She told a few anecdotes and showed us pictures of some of the horses. It was a very interesting and inspiring introduction to the work of this local charity. This was followed by Y6 taking part in a special Feltonfleet Steeplechase, which involved jumping over hurdles on Calvi Field, and throwing money onto paper targets as each hurdle was passed. Many coins were gathered in this way, resulting in a lot of counting!

Year 7
Pupils dressed up as teachers and the teachers wore school uniform. They also baked some cakes and biscuit to sell to the Main School. They raised £180 which will be donated to Shooting Stars charity . Tim Perkins Head of Year 7
Year 8
On Friday 30th April, 50 Year 8 pupils took part in a human “wheelbarrow challenge”. The challenge required the year group to dress in fancy dress and work with a partner taking it in turns to complete as many 50m laps as possible in 45minutes. The winning pair of George Berry and Tom Cooper completed over 40 laps of the 50m course. The Year group undertook the challenge to raise money for Prostate Cancer. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK and sadly kills about 12,000 in the UK each year. I am delighted to say that with monies still being collected, the Year group had raised over £500. A very impressive amount from a very talented and kind Year Group.
