Feltonfleet@TheFringe had another sell-out year at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with their production of “An OFSTED Inspector Calls”. The cast and crew set off for Edinburgh very early one Saturday morning at the beginning of August armed with props, costumes and thousands of fliers and posters to leaflet the crowds with. Word of mouth is everything at the Fringe and it was very gratifying to see a thousand happy audience members through the six days of our run. Indeed, we had the biggest audience at our venue in Week 1 of the Fringe! BroadwayBaby.com gave us a four-star review saying that “the whole production is great fun with laughs from beginning to end”. More importantly, the critic noted the professionalism of our young cast playing comedy seriously. Reviews from the public were all four and five-star, with one audience member saying the children were “amazing”.
Our week at the world’s largest arts festival was packed full of great moments – we saw about a dozen shows from contemporary dance and beat-boxing (“Tom Tom Crew”), to a capella (“Out of the Blue”) and the Soweto Gospel Choir. We had “Shakespeare for Breakfast” and saw his “Complete Works - Abridged” (in an hour!). We saw “Sweeney Todd” (starring previous Feltonfleet@TheFringe actor and former Head Boy, Nick Armfield),“Tap Kids”, various world-class street performers and the Moscow State Circus.
None of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our cast. Their efforts in rehearsal and their energy and enthusiasm in Edinburgh made this trip a joy for all concerned. We were ably assisted by a fantastically supportive group of parents, particularly the wonderful “Lindi’s Lunches” (our catering department!). Feltonfleet@TheFringe ’09 was a trip none of us will soon forget!
