The Feltonfleet 1st XI had progressed through to the quarter-finals of the Surrey Prep Schools Cup beating Homefield and a strong Hall Grove side. Unfortunately their good run finished on Wednesday 20th May when Parkside proved themselves to be a stronger opposition.
Put in to bat Parkside made a steady start but gave early catching chances which Feltonfleet dropped thus allowing two of their strongest batsmen to survive and make large scores. In their 30 overs 185 was scored for the loss of 3 wickets leaving a high run rate for Feltonfleet to achieve.
From the start economical bowling by Parkside and less than competent strokes produced a rash of wickets putting the team well in arrears. With 10 overs gone the score only 18 for 4 wickets down it was looking nigh on impossible for the target to be achieved. In trying to push the scoring rate on Jos Pinnington was caught in the covers having played a controlled innings from Number 2 position. Alex Coates steadied the ship but still runs were hard to score and finally Feltonfleet were bowled out in the 25th over for 64.
Congratulations to the opposition and we wish them luck for the future rounds but it is back to the nets for the team!
