June 30th 1945 and the children of year 3, evacuated from the bomb damaged streets of London enjoy a late VE day party in the light dappled grounds of Feltonfleet school. Bathed in the summer sunshine and with the union flag fluttering in the breeze, rationing worries are thrown out the window and the children are treated to jam sandwiches, chocolate cakes and some elusive bananas!!
To celebrate the end of our World war topic the year 3 children were given the chance to dress as World War 2 and, on Tuesday morning a variety of pilots, spivs, soldiers, land girls and bedraggled evacuees, gas mask and all were ushered into the classroom. The effort and quality of the costumes was well commented as was the commitment to keep in character- Biggles never took his flying goggles off! A massive thank you to the parents and teachers for supplying the party food, helping staff the party and making it such an enjoyable experience for children and staff alike.
