Surrey Hockey Tournament – Sunday 8th March 2009
The U11 girls finished the week on a high at the Surrey Hockey Tournament this Sunday. The girls found enough energy after a very busy week to play some fantastic hockey. In the first round the girls played three games and produced the following results.
Feltonfleet v Bishopsgate School won 3-0 Feltonfleet v St Thomas’s School drew 0-0 Feltonfleet v Cranleigh Prep School won 1-0
This meant they won their group and went through to the quarter finals. They then had to play Hall Grove and battled right the way to extra time. We were delighted when Sophie Corner got on the end of a great pass into the circle and scored the winning goal, earning us a place in the semi finals.
This result meant that we had to play St Georges, who proved to be tough opposition. They pulled away early and the game finished 2-0. Nonetheless the girls kept fighting to be the third placed team gaining qualification to the Southern round tournament.
The third and fourth place play off was against St Thomas’s Clapham. This match turned out to be the longest; the score remained 0-0 after full time and extra time. This meant the girls had to go to penalty strokes. Sophie Wilson our GK prepared herself along with Olivia Camsey, Isabel McClean and Clemmie Ryder-Smith who where going to take the penalties for us. The penalty strokes went in favour of St Thomas’s and meant that the Feltonfleet finished in fourth place. This is an outstanding achievement, and highlights how well we do against much bigger girls schools. Well done to the 8 girls who took part in the tournament.
