Shivering Siberian style rugby at Epsom
I can’t remember ever having watched rugby in more cold numbing conditions than the National prep schools rugby regional qualifiers which took place at Epsom today. And yet, in spite of a wind chill factor which made playing almost impossible, our U-11, U-10, and U-9 sides played with tremendous gusto and verve. The U-9’s secured early qualification for the finals in March, and as the tournament reached its climax the U-11’s were hoping to hear they had made it through as well. Very well done to all the teams, to the army of parents who have followed them so loyally once again (and who generously shared their hot drinks with the hypothermic Headmaster), and to my colleagues who spent a shivering Siberian Sunday to encourage their teams. A memorable day all round!
