We were delighted to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Elmbridge, Nigel and Elizabeth Cooper at the opening of the new extension to Calvi House.
David Hanson, Chairman of IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) performed the official opening ceremony cheered on by a large crowd of enthusiastic past and present Calvi pupils.
Planning for the new extension and facilities – a large sports/dining hall, library and IT suite as well as new classroom coupled with a major refurbishment of the department – began back in 2004. Councillors John O’Reilly and Nigel Cooper were particularly supportive during the extensive planning process and we were delighted that Gallic Construction completed the project well within time and pupils could move in when they returned from the Christmas break.
Jan Preece, (the Headmistress of Calvi House) opened the school in 1994 and her vision of a dedicated facility for boys and girls between the ages of 3 and 7 being well prepared for the move on to the Main School at Feltonfleet is now complete. ‘We all know that buildings aren’t everything but these fine new facilities do support us in our original aim and given Calvi’s big heart and fantastic teachers and pupils, together with the vibrant Prep. Department our children move on to, it is fair to say that Feltonfleet is flourishing’, said Jan at the opening ceremony.
The Headmaster was delighted too to receive a Mayoral plaque from Nigel Cooper and this will be displayed in the new building.
