In order to further their knowledge of the world, the Oceans and their telephone skills, some of 4SB were very fortunate to speak to Sam Davies. who is currently sailing in the Round the World Vendee Globe Race. Sam is friend of Tracy Edwards MBE and was part of the crew that were the first female crew to sail round the world. Not satisfied with this amazing achievement, Sam decided to sail single handed around the world, in her boat called Roxy and is currently in fourth position.
The pupils managed to catch Sam on her satellite phone whilst she was just off the North East coast of South America and is on her way to the finish at Les Sables D’Olonne. Sam was delighted to speak to the pupils and they were very excited with her responses.
Here are a selection of the questions we asked:
What do you eat? Up to 6000 calories a day and that included lots of chocolate!!
Have you seen any whales ? Yes!!! One swam past the front of the boat and it was huge!!
Do you get homesick? Luckily – no not really as she can phone home and email.
The pupils who did not speak by phone have emailed their questions.
Sam hopes to visit the school later this year to tell us of her wonderful achievement.
Her website is www.samdavies.com
