8AR were honoured to be given a fascinating talk on Tuesday 25th November, by Peter Owen, the nephew of the famous First World War poet, Wilfred Owen. They heard about the life of the poet, the conditions in the War and the poetry that Wilfred Owen produced in his tragically short life.
The artefacts, that Peter Owen showed them, brought the stories, poems and experiences alive and included: shells, grenades, parts of the German dug-outs and a bugle (which they managed to get some notes out of!).
It was a rare insight into the man and the times, from someone with close links to the great poet and we’d like to thank Peter Owen for his time and enthusiasm and Mr Kendall for arranging the visit.
