Last Saturday we hosted our 2nd U13 sevens tournament. As holders we were keen to keep hold of the winners’ shield. Three wins out of three saw us through the group stages as group winners and we were pitched against the much fancied Homefield side in the semi-finals. The team played some excellent sevens emerging comfortable winners at 21-0. The final saw us up against Lanesborough who we had already defeated in the group stages. Within 30 seconds we had scored a converted try through captain Niall Barry. A tight game then followed with Lanesborough being denied a try in the corner following a fantastic covering tackle by Hugo Fleming. From the subsequent throw – in , we cleared our lines with a long kick, which was chased down by Hugo Fleming, who then ripped the ball of the Lanesborough defender and then ran 30 metres to score under the posts. Game won 14-0. This year’s competition was particularly strong, with Feltonfleet ‘B’ team competing fantastically well in the other group against such strong opposition as Hawthorns, Homefield and Chinthurst. The highlight of their performance was a narrow loss to Chinthurst 7-12. All their matches were keenly contested and all the boys should be proud of their efforts.
