The environment and "sustainable development" in particular, is now an important consideration in all aspects of school life. The Eco Committee is the driving force behind environmental initiatives. This is co-chaired this year by Oliver Champness and Victoria Morgan. The secretary is Edward Cooper and the other members are Scott Emerson, Ali Hudspeth, Daniel Pearson, Ellie Sarsam, Ottilie Spruit, Harry Snell and Thomas Tweedie-Smith. The Eco Committee meets each week and a full committee meeting, including Adrian Wimbush (Governor), Georgina Lonsdale (parent), the Headmaster, the Bursar, Miss Bray (Juniors), Mrs OíToole (Calvi) meets once a term. The Eco Committee works closely with the School Council to promote sustainability. The Eco Committee devised our school Eco Code, which outlines our commitment to a sustainable future.
The pond A major project over the last two years has been the restoration of the school pond and surrounding habitat, which has become the focal point of our outdoor learning. Many children from all parts of the school were involved in clearing. The slide show below shows the progress. We now also have a bird hide overlooking the pond and we are going to introduce bird feeders over the winter months. We have made some huge strides in helping to improve our school environment, particularly with regard to waste and recycling. Click on the document in the "files to download" section for a comprehensive list of successes so far.
Please help support our environment. Remember to REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE. "Think globally, act locally." |
