Charity Events Summer Term 2009
June 2009
Each year at Feltonfleet School, we give each year group the opportunity to plan an event and to raise money for their chosen charity during the Summer Term.
Calvi
Calvi’s Charity Day raised £296 for the Born Free Foundation. The children had a wonderful day dressed up as animals and taking part in a variety of fun activities. The cake sale in the back garden was an excellent conclusion – our thanks for the cakes and to the mothers who kindly sold them for us.
Andrina Murrell from the Foundation talked about their work and particularly some projects in Ethiopia. This enthused the children for their various activities such as designing a poster to encourage people to save endangered animals and look after other animals and to make up a name for a dodo.
Year 3
Year 3 aimed to emulate the success of Mr Pearce who ran the London Marathon on behalf of Abbie's Fund. They ran 26 laps of the 200m track and all completed their target. It was a tremendous effort from all and the total of £797.07 will go to help research into the childhood cancer Neuroblastoma.
Year 4
Children enjoyed dressing up as wildlife on Friday 12th June in order to support the local wildlife charity ‘Wildlife Aid’ and raised £70.66.
Year 5
Pupils chose to support the Calabash Trust, based in South Africa, which aims to develop and support sustainable projects with focus on nutrition and education. In order to raise money, the children had to skip for 10 minutes without stopping on Monday 8th June in the main field. They raised £359.
Year 6
Pupils chose to support ‘Just A Drop’ which is a charity that makes wells and provides safe drinking water in Africa. The pupils had to guess how many sweets there were in a jar ( which was won by Nicholas Cassidy) and also organised a ‘Year 6 Hasn’t Got Talent Competition’ on Wednesday 9th June. The competition consisted of a range of amazing, funny and sometimes weird talents. The total sum raised was £69.
Year 7
Pupils were brilliant at working as a team. They were extremely well organised and presented excellent leadership skills. At break times many pupils enjoyed the activities that Year 7’s had put on display such as find the tail on the donkey, sweet and cake sales, a football match, decorate a cake and throw the wet sponge. They raised £357.84. The group that will be taking all the collection is ‘Water Aid’.
Year 8
On Wednesday 24th June the whole of Year 8 took part in a 5 hour football Marathon to help raise funds for football Africa and the Mango Tree Trust. The event kicked off at 8.00am and all players concerned participated until 1.00pm that afternoon. In total over 40 boys and girls took part playing for the imaginatively named teams ‘the reds’ or the ‘blues’. After 5 hours of non stop football ironically enough the event ended in a draw with a score line of 76 goals each. I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all the pupils for their efforts and for braving the heat on what turned out to be a rather hot day. With sponsorship monies still be collected, it is hoped that the Year group will raise approximately £400 which would be a great achievement for two excellent causes.
IIce-Cream Sale
Feltonfleet completed the fund raising events for this academic year with an ice-cream sale. Staff and pupils enjoyed an ice-cream on a hot summer’s day and raised £144 for charity. The collection will be going to the year group which raised the most money during Charity Week. The winner so far is Abbie's Fund (£797.07) which helps research into the childhood cancer Neuroblastoma.
May 2009
On Thursday 21st May both pupils and staff made an effort to wear something pink to school to help raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the Caron Keating Foundation. We collected £365.26.
