The aims of Science teaching at Feltonfleet School are:

• To develop children’s natural curiosity about the world around them
• To provide a sound foundation of scientific ideas and skills upon which future progress in Science can be achieved
• To fully prepare pupils for their C.E, Scholarship or other entrance examinations.

From the earliest beginnings in Calvi House children are taught to investigate the world around them. Science activities are designed to stimulate enquiry and run in conjunction with other subjects. As the children progress into the Junior School their knowledge and understanding develop further. Here science is taught as a discrete subject by the class teacher, but important links with other subjects are maintained.

From the age of nine (Year 5) upwards the children are set according to ability and are taught by science specialists.

Two well-equipped laboratories provide excellent facilities for experimentation and practical investigation forms an important part of the teaching and learning.

The Science programme exceeds the requirements of the National Curriculum and leads into Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations at 13+.
