Woodland Habitats (Life Processes and Living Things) Year Three, Summer Term
During the Summer Term, Year Three exploit our extensive grounds toward an indepth study of trees and a woodland habitat. From the needs and the role of the roots through to the function of the leaves and the basic idea of photosynthesis, the children experience trees first hand, observing their height, shade and girth to predict chronological age.
As they extend the needs of the one to the needs of the many, trees are considered as one feature of a woodland habitat alongside other plant and animal life. They explore the interrelationships present within the habitat and finally develop an appreciation of the threats to forestry in Britain and beyond (rainforests). |
