Rocks and Soils (Materials and their Properties)

Year Three, Summer Term

During the Summer Term, Year Three seek to describe and group rocks and soils on the basis of their characteristics. The criteria they employ includes a consideration of the origin of the rock sample, namely' Is it a naturally occuring material?' or 'Is this material man-made?

They learn that different rocks may be linked to different types of soil and that in turn there is a relationship between the type of soil and the flow of water through it (permeability).
