During the Winter Term, Year Three undertake a thrilling world study of a past society, namely the Ancient Egyptians. Through an introduction to the essence of archaeology, the children seek to interpret evidence about past lives as they consider the relevance of historical artefacts to our current
Applying their developing geographical skills, the children first locate Egypt and its life source the river Nile prior to considering the importance of the Nile during ancient times as well as to present day Egyptians, particularly the farming lifestyles dependent on its existence. |

As their study deepens, so they learn about the power of the Pharaohs, the discovery of tomb of Tutankhamen and the mysteries of the pyramids. The practice of mummification enthralls their young minds whilst an appreciation of the Gods and Goddesses of the time widens their knowledge of past religions.
Finally the children contrast their own lives with those of children living in the time of the Pharaohs and experiment with Hieroglyphs as they consider ancient forms of recording and the role of papyrus. |
