ICT Home

Children are introduced to Information and Communication Technology at age three or four. In the early years especially, the computer significantly enhances our multisensory approach towards a rewarding level of achievement in reading, writing and numeracy.

We promote a cross-curricular approach to ICT and children are also taught discrete ICT lessons from Reception onwards, with Nursery having one-to-one specialist teaching.Children have network accounts, acessible from outside of school. They are taught to use e-mail in Year 4 and have full use of e-mail to support their work in the Senior School (years 5-8). Internet access is filtered and monitored. We have a state of the art computer suite and interactive white boards to encourage a multimedia approach to teaching and learning. We also have high speed ADSL and a large wireless network with notebooks for the Senior School.

Children should have an opportunity to:

Present their written work using word processing packages

Appreciate how presentation of ideas using ICT can enhance work
Learn about the range of resources available using ICT and select appropriate information
Improve their own learning and performance through reviewing, modifying and evaluating
work in progress
Appreciate and understand how ICT is used in a wider context e.g. in working life
Use simple technical vocabulary
Explore a variety of ICT tools

Our aims in teaching ICT at Feltonfleet School:

To use ICT tools to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information responsibly
and with discrimination.
To learn how to employ ICT to enable rapid access to ideas and experiences from a wide
range of people, communities and cultures.
To use ICT to promote initiatives and independent learning with pupils making informed
judgements about when and where to use ICT to best effect, and to consider its implications
for home and work both now and in the future.
