The Curriculum
Pupils are prepared for Common Entrance and Scholarship exams at 13+ which are broadly based on the syllabus required at Key Stage 3. Coverage of our syllabus begins in Year 6 with the easier, and more dramatic, concepts and finishing in Year 8 with the more complex and demanding. Year 5 is a transition zone between the Junior School Curriculum and the rigours of Common Entrance and Scholarship.
A Sense of Place
We believe that giving our pupils a sense of global location—finding out where places are— is a key part of our job in preparing children for their life beyond school and therefore give that task its due amount of our time.
Topics
Year 5: the Earth; the Environment; the Water Cycle; Atlas mapwork Year 6: Volcanoes and Earthquakes; Ordnance Survey mapwork; Weather Year 7: Rivers and Flooding; Landslides; Coasts; Settlement; National Parks and their Problems Year 8: Economic Activities; Climate; Weathering; Sustainable Development
Fieldwork Enquiries
Enquiry work is a vital part of our Geography work. From Years 6 to 8 the pupils will do an enquiry each year. The project that is completed in Year 8 forms an integral part of the Common Entrance examination. |
