Reading Workshop

Author Visit

The English department at Feltonfleet aim to help children to obtain well developed literacy skills, whilst still attempting to encourage enthusiasm for literature and English in all its forms. This includes encouraging children to enjoy reading and discovering a variety of authors and texts. We are also aware of the necessity to give pupils the skills to communicate clearly and equip them with the tools for learning across the curriculum.

Pupils experience a varied curriculum that allows them to gain a broad knowledge of the subject and prepares them for their ongoing education. The less able are assisted in some English lessons by our Special Needs Coordinators, Audrey Moncrieffe and Anna Williams, who work alongside the class teacher, taking small groups of children and individuals and targeting specific weaknesses within the children's work. For the more able, there are small streamed groups in Years 7 and 8, which include children that work towards the very high demands of the 13+ scholarship examination. The aims and objectives in the upper years incorporate the requirements for CE, at both 11+ and 13+, and the variety of entrance and scholarship examinations that our pupils undertake.
