DT Examples of Work

Provision for Design and Technology

Design and Technology from Year 4-8 is delivered by the Head of Department, Mr Peter Harnden. Year 2 is delivery by the class teacher with Mr Harnden assisting in the Design and Technology workshop and Year 3 is delivered by the Head of Art.

All children receive one hour each week in this specifically designed room. The Design and Technology workshop is fully resourced with machines and tools to work with all resistant materials (wood, metal and plastic). The room is also equipped to teach Electronics, Graphics, Textile and Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM).

Children are taught to use hand tools in the early years and the safe use of equipment is a vital part of this learning experience.

The Design and Technology Course

During the child's Design and Technology career at Feltonfleet they will complete a vast array of projects. Each project is designed to provide opportunities for the child to be assessed in a number of skills such as research, designing, planning, making, and evaluating.

Each year the child experiences one or more of each of the key disciplines of the subject; Resistant Materials, Electronics and Control, Graphics and Textiles.

Year 2

Card Mechanisms, Card Jewellery Boxes, Door Bells, Fabric Money Holders, Wooden Dolls

Year 3

Puppets, Fabric Hats and Masks, Wooden Vehicles, Pop Up Cards

Year 4

Mechanical Animals, Kites, Spinning Tops, Mirror Frames,

Year 5

Key Fobs, Finger Puppets, and Mobile Phone holders, Hovercraft

Year 6

Desk Organisers, Torches, Steady Hand Games, Pencil Cases

Year 7

Pewter Jewellery, Picture Frames using CAD/CAM technology, Sports Bags, Vases

Year 8

Clocks, Shelters and structures, Cup Holders, Alarms

Extra Curricular

In addition to regular lessons, children also have the opportunity to work in their free time. Specific workshops and trips are also planned throughout the year to broaden the child's Design and Technology experiences.
