The importance of Design and Technology

At Feltonfleet we believe that it is vital for children be given the experiences that will enable them to play a constructive part in our changing world. Design and Technology provides a framework for such experiences. We provide opportunities for children to learn through doing and talking. Problems are approached in real contexts and important personal qualities are developed along with attitudes such as creativity, co-operation and perseverance.

Through projects, children learn to think and intervene creativity to improve quality of life. Design and Technology at Feltonfleet calls pupils to become autonomous problem solvers, as individuals and members of a team. They must look for needs, wants and opportunities and respond to them by developing a range of ideas and making products and systems.

They combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetics, social and environmental issues, function and industrial practices. As they do so, they reflect on and evaluate present and past design and technology, its uses and effects.

Through Design and Technology, all pupils can become discriminating and informed users of products and become innovators.
