Positive Learning
Pupils in the Senior School are taught by a specialist teacher and receive one hour of Drama per week. In the Junior School pupils have one single English lesson per week for Drama. Pupils in Calvi have weekly drama lessons. Drama and Creative Development are also frequently used to support pupil learning within English and other areas of the curriculum. Class Teachers in Calvi and in the Junior School use the aims and objectives set for Drama to inform their teaching. The relevant framework or curriculum documents for each specific year group are used alongside these aims and objectives to ensure balance, breadth and differentiation. Planning in each case aims to promote the four school values and allow pupils to achieve of their best.
Positive Leading
Drama at Feltonfleet encourages every child to to become positive, confident and animated performers. Teachers aim to help pupils to develop their self-confidence and acquire skills that can translate across the curriculum and throughout other areas of their lives. In addition to exposing pupils to a range of drama skills, genres and techniques, teachers facilitate pupils to interact effectively with others and develop an enquiry based approach to their work. Drama in the Senior School is taught by the Director of Drama, who works closely with other teachers delivering Drama in order to share good practice, encourage communication, and ensure all pupils are working towards the aims and objectives for Drama at Feltonfleet. Creative Arts Prefects and Internal Drama Scholars are encouraged to demonstrate positive leadership at Feltonfleet. These pupils may assist during year group productions, undertake responsibilities within the department, participate in assemblies and help younger pupils with their learning in this subject.
Positive Living
Extra-curricular Drama is available in the Senior School as part of the Activities program for selected pupils or year groups. Teachers also use Drama to support other subject areas, as part of an assembly, to stage a French play, or in order to showcase work produced in lessons. Every pupil is given the opportunity to perform on stage each year throughout their school career. In Calvi and in the Junior School a full scale production takes place annually. In the Senior School, pupils are involved in a school production every year. Auditions are held in order to cast leading roles, although all pupils are given their moment to shine. In addition to watching performances by their peers, pupils enjoy visiting the theatre and participating in Drama workshops.
