Key Stage One

In Key Stage One the timetable becomes more structured. We continue to plan a programme that is broad and balanced so that children are engaged, work hard yet have fun. We regard the acquisition of traditional skills of reading, writing and numeracy as vital to their future learning and plan the teaching programme carefully for continuity and progression.

The programme for Years One and Two is based on the National Curriculum, again with specialist-taught French, ICT, Music, Swimming and PE. Some subjects are taught through a cross-curricula approach such as in Year 1 where the topic Houses and Homes embraces history, geography, science and technology and Year 2’s topic on Cobham which combines both history and geography. A distinctive feature of our curriculum is daily physical activity – games, gymnastics or athletics, dance and swimming. We believe an active healthy lifestyle leads to active and composed learning in the classroom.
