Work is organised into topics, some of which link with other areas of the curriculum and some with a specifically scientific content. There is some whole-class teaching, to develop scientific vocabulary and model lines of enquiry whilst at other times the children work individually or in groups in an investigative activity. Scientific investigation includes field work where the children work in pairs and record their findings. At all times the children’s scientific findings are made relevant to their experience of life and the emphasis is on practical discovery.
Typical subjects covered are Growth, Electricity, Forces and movement, Variation and Light and Dark.
