All independent boarding schools are inspected by Ofsted’s Children’s Directorate once every three years using the Government’s ‘Every Child Matters’ framework.This has provided us with a method to ensure the happiness, safety and wellbeing of our boarders in a House where they can contribute and thrive.

To be recognised as an ‘outstanding’ Boarding House is a huge reward for all of us in this community, from the catering team to the matrons and from the Boarding House Tutors to the most important people in the House, the children that board at Feltonfleet. It sums up my own boarding philosophy, that we are one community at the very heart of this school.

So where do we go from ‘outstanding’? To achieve this level of recognition is a lot of hard work but it’s not a one off. As a Housemaster the challenge is to maintain this level by providing our staff with the highest level of training available. It’s also about having the ability to adapt to the make up of the House, the needs of every individual boarder. This is never easy but it’s a challenge that a boarding house like ours prepares for and takes on with energy and enthusiasm.
