Our libraries aim to promote the highest levels of literacy in a comfortable but stimulating environment in which each child feels welcome and at ease. Our three libraries, Calvi, Junior and Sue Johnson each serve specific age groups and are located across the school site to allow for ease of access. They provide resources suitable for all pupils and staff covering the full range of curriculum subjects, reading schemes and recreational reading. The Sue Johnson Library also takes subscriptions to magazines and newspapers covering academic, sporting and leisure interests. Audiotapes and CDs are available to loan. The library catalogue is held on a computerised database
Timetabled library lessons are held for all year groups which follow information skills programmes. This develops pupil’s information and research skills. Pupil librarians are actively encouraged from Year 6 upwards and are well known for their enthusiasm. Activities to foster a love and understanding of book and research are held throughout the academic year including Book fairs, author visits, character costume parades, quizzes and competitions. |
